He is an associate professor of economics and a deputy director of the Macroeconomic Policy Program at National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) in Tokyo. He is exceptionally good at the quantitative methods of Macroeconomic research, especially numerically solving life-cycle models. His studies apply this methodology to three issues: 1) designs of health insurance, pension and social welfare programs; 2) income and wealth inequality and optimal taxation; 3) population aging and its implications for macroeconomics. Furthermore, he is also interested in unique economic features in developing economies and their policy implications.
